How could the music work in my hand phone?

My hand phone is Sony Ericsson W800, the best walkman in low price, with integrated media player and wonderful earphones. It supports several file formats such as MP3, MP4, and AAC. The instruction shows music file can work once put into audio file.  The truth is no matter what format the file be converted into, it doesn’t work. I tried many ways but failed. How can I have a hand phone that can not play music? Especially it is a music phone.
Yesterday I bought some book for Spanish Leaning. Nowadays, there is no tape attached with the book as I expected. People use CD or DVD in 21 century. So I have to buy a DVD for listening. My tape walkman can not eat the DVD while I can not afford a notebook or DVD player at present. So my hand phone looks like a hero now.  I can not wait to convert DVD to AVI, or convert DVD to MP3 with a DVD ripper, and put them into the audio or video files in my mobile. But I still didn’t know the exact format to put in mobile.
Till now, I can only hear the classic music which was put into the phone before I bought it.  What a stupid phone!
